JOLON, Monterey County — October 30, 2026. Fort Hunter Liggett hosted more than 4,700 soldiers from 74 military units for the Army Reserve’s Operation Bold Eagle 2026, according to an August 6 report from the installation’s Public Affairs Office. The training brought unusually heavy military logistics and traffic to the rural Jolon corridor during the summer.
What happened at the base?
Military personnel conducted a large Combat Support Training Exercise covering movement, field logistics, communications, simulated opposition and operational support. Fort Hunter Liggett officials described a temporary transformation of the post, with equipment convoys, civilian supply trucks, range operations and support teams arriving for the exercise.
Why does it matter to Jolon?
The installation is accessed through the Jolon Road network. Army officials described a steady flow of military vehicles and support traffic during the event. Residents and travelers should distinguish this summer 2026 exercise from future road restrictions: the Army’s retrospective report is not a live traffic advisory or an announcement of a new operation in October.
How does this relate to road investments?
The training demonstrates why Jolon Road is significant not just for nearby ranches and rural residents but also as access to a major military training installation. California58 has separately covered the county’s Jolon Road safety improvement grant application, a different public-works process. This article reports the exercise itself rather than claiming the road reconstruction has begun.
